musical chairs

So apparently this is a pretty common drama when planning a wedding. The venues chairs are damn ugly. I'm positive its on purpose its so you'll have to hire chair covers from them! I hate those darn white chair covers. Soooo unattractive and your room ends up being a mass of white fabric with the table cloths and the white wedding dress. Urgh! I'm starting to feel a wee queasy! haha

Well, I'm sad to say our venue has hideous chairs and I'm usually like whatever no-one will notice but these bad boys are quite an eyesore! Its not really their fault as its not a fancy venue so I wasn't really expecting them to be pretty. I may have foolishly thought they might be cute, quirky or mis-match retro chairs. Nope, they are those gross school-chairs which may have been a green in their day but now are a nice dirty beige. Mmm delish!

So, my first DIY project will be trying to figure out a solution! Mum reckons we could whip up some colourful fabric covers (not to be mistaken for those white monstrosities!) on our sewing machines and so far this is looking like my best option! There is only 50 people coming so I think it may be do-able! My ideas have included stickers, cushions, paper flowers and ignoring them....haha

My favourite idea is the gingham one and I'm thinking of sewing a red heart to the back of each chair which I think would be pretty sweet! What do you think and do you have any amazing ideas?

rockin around the christmas tree

festive heart garland I made!

our finger-painting wrapping paper tied with doilies & ribbon!

cute santa sack I made Tallulah!

Our Christmas tree!

Its beginning to feel alot like Christmas in our house! And the best part? Ross only has one more day of work then we're on holidays! Seriously, I am so excited for Christmas this year! Tallulah knows how to unwrap presents and her face lights up when she sees whats inside, its beyond cute!

This last week we have been busy being festive by making christmas heart garlands, finger-painting christmas paper, christmas shopping, buying christmas outfits, having playdates with our playgroup, making santa sacks (super cute right?!) wrapping presents, listening to the she&him christmas album...oooh its been fun!

How cute is our wooden tree? I spray painted it and all! What does your tree look like?

p.s I am trying to teach Tallulah to not open the presents till Sunday...hard task! haha

the grass is greener

Over the weekend we decided to astro-turf our balcony! Oh my its all sorts of awesome! We turned it from a boring brick balcony where we didn't really hang out to a super spot to have an ice cold bevvy and lots of relaxing times! Hurrah! Tallulah LOVES it as I think the brick was a little rough on her knees. Who needs a courtyard when you have a fun patch of fake grass? Not us! Oh and I have also ordered a pink flamingo whose new home will be on the turf!

wearable fun

Today we have spent the morning with friends who live out of town which has been super great! Then we came home to hang out and I made this necklace which is kind of like a toy! haha! I found these funny child-like wooden shapes in a shop in Fremantle and turned them into a necklace. I miss making jewellery (I used to have my own jewellery label Dapple-Grey!) it was nice to make something again even though it was pretty darn basic. I am wearing now and Tallulah kind of loves it! We're off for an Italian feast tonight to Ciao Italia. Perthies have you been here? Its pretty ah-mazing and v. popular!

slither

We live in an old 1930's apartment which means beautiful polished floorboards, high ceiling but also winter draughts! We noticed on one blustery evening a strong chilly breeze floating through our french doors which open up into the balcony. So I decided to make this little lady today! I have named her Delilah  the door snake! I sewed a long sausage shape out of some old curtains then filled her with rice and gave her a felt tongue and some sexy bobble eyes! She keeps our room nice and warm! Welcome Delilah...!

a change of scenery

crazy rug is fun and warm!

thanks for the rocker mum!

There has been a rather big change in our household and its pretty neat! I have a confession; Tallulah was still sleeping in our room at age 71/2 months. Well, that was until 2 weeks ago when I had a mini meltdown about how my life was total consumed by this little human even my bedroom had been taken over and it used to be my sanctuary; where I would read, chat to Ross about everything and nothing and just chill. However for the last 6 months we've had Tallulah sleeping in our room which was intense. It meant we had to be super quiet and it wasn't working. Every movement was starting to make her stir and I must say I was getting little to no sleep! Sooooooo.....we turned our sewing/wardrobe/storage room into Tallulahs new room! HURRAH!

It is super. Not only was it really fun to decorate it, Tallulah, Ross and I are all loving it. She is not waking up as much and she loves exploring and playing on the colourful rug. I was a little paranoid the first couple of nights that I wouldn't hear her but you can definitely hear her squawk but for peace of mind I went out and bought a Tomy baby monitor which is ace. It even plays lullabies and is a night light.

So, the fun part was decorating her room. I know most mums probably get to do this when they are pregnant but for obvious reasons I missed out! Decorating is actually one of my favourite things. I didn't go too mad but when on a little excursion to Ikea and bought some cute things. I purchased this colourful rug, this comfy pillow and these cute storage containers for my change table. I found this adorable dog laundry basket from Kmart and purchased the forrest critters decal from ebay for $6 and Mum gave me this old Ikea rocker she wasn't using and hey presto for about $120 in total we got ourselves a super fun, colourful room! OMG this change has been for the best!

P.S I have been a little behind with my blogging....so many things to share so keep posted!

Fork

So over last couple of months I have been faced with a tough decision of whether I should return to work.  I think I knew the whole time I was stressing (oh yeah there were tears!) about it that it was out of my control and I wouldn't be going back to my much loved job this year. As I mentioned previously on my blog Tallulah and I have been at war over the dreaded bottle. She refused to take it. A battle obviously I have lost haha! In the end I just couldn't visualise how it was going to work. There was too many obstacles from who was going to look after her when my job got hectic and I needed to work more than 1 day a week to how was the person (my mama!) going to cope with a grumbling baby who refuses to drink from a bottle. Impossible.

I am a project manager and work in the fashion and events industry which means long hours, hard work and lots parties! I love it and I have always been super career focussed where my job sometimes consumes me. It was really hard for me to tell my boss and my work friends I wouldn't/couldn't be part of the team this year. It really hurt my heart.

I felt like a little bit of Renee was being put into the freezer. My career has always kind of been who I was which sounds a little strange but the fashion/arts industry is a my type of lifestyle and I am pretty passionate about it and live and breathe it. But to be fair, as I have been so focussed on Tallulah and Ross and being a little family I feel like it I wouldn't be able to switch off and be 100% there and to be honest my job requires that! How do some mama's go back after 6 weeks? I am in awe of you, you are my heroes! I always thought I would be able to do the same, to juggle both career and motherhood but jolly-gosh it would be oh-so hard.

Next year (if we are still in Perth!) is a different story. Tallulah will be 12+ months and not so dependant on me. I will no longer be her walking fridge which means she can stay at her grandmas house and I won't have to worry so much as to whether she is getting enough milk as she will be able to eat real food- yippee! I am going to try out the juggle and see if I can keep all the balls in the air. I'm sure I can do, it will just take a little bit of practise!

I am trying to be a half-glass full mama and decided my new situation gives me 12 months to focus on being the best mama to Tallulah and figuring this whole baby/mama thing out. Its quite mind boggling but I'm pretty excited about it. It means I can spend Wednesdays with my mama (her day off!) and Tallulah, crafting and gossiping. Its quite delightful. My clever mama crocheted Tallulah that most awesome owl beanie. She is teaching me how to knit. It means I can spend Tuesdays with my Mum & Bubs group who I adore. It means Tallulah gets my undivided attention which is nice. As I'm writing this it actually seems quite idyllic....!
