This was something new for me as this project had a strong message to deliver in all the activity which was undertaken. This project was about educating the public about the benefits of opshops in our community. I came up with the concept of teaming up with 10 local bloggers who were set a challenge to buy nothing new for 30 days and document their daily outfits on their blogs.

I arranged a super fun photoshoot with the bloggers with leading Perth photographer Penny Lane (also a close friend!) and the campaign images were used on posters, postcards and a magazine I created for the show! The girls looked so amazing! You might spot Sharon from Sass & Spice looking smoking who was one of the 10 bloggers who took part in the challenge!

The project ended with a fashion show during the Festival week celebrating the bloggers favourite outfits. The show also featured 10 lovely charity workers who were styled in opshop threads and walked the runway. The initiative was a massive hit and one of my favourite projects I have ever managed. I'm super keen to grow the concept and make it bigger and better and involve more bloggers next year (eeeep yep already plotting ideas for 2013!)

Here are some iphone pics I took throughout the project. I didn't get many of the actual show as I was a wee busy calling the show! haha! Next post I'll share my other projects!

This was my fourth year working with Perth Fashion Festival and boy was it a different experience for me this year. Not only was the Festival bigger than ever but I also had never work this job before with a kiddo. More than anyone I knew how much commitment you need to work this job. I was going to be working long hours sometimes 7 days a week leading up to the Festival. Sometimes there is not a chance to grab lunch let alone pick up the phone and call loved ones just to check in. However this year I was so much calmer, more settled. I think having a kiddo has taught me not to sweat the small stuff, though I can't say that it wasn't hard, stressful or tears weren't shed.

I'm sure every parent thinks this when you return to work but OMG there is so much organising and scheduling to be had so you can make it to the office by 8am....There were a few times when I found myself packing Tallulah's bag at midnight and sure enough the next day we got an SMS to say I had forgotten to put in shoes, or pants or something essential! Haha I got better at it, promise! I must say having a committed amazing partner like Ross made this whole process so much easier. He is truly the most supportive and amazing partner in crime a girl could have. He went the extra mile when all the balls I was trying to juggle started to fall. Can't wait to marry that guy, he's a keeper and he's cute to boot!

Ross & I are also ridiculously lucky to have the most loveliest families in all the land. They looked after Tallulah this year, which not only saved us a whole bunch of money but meant Tallulah had the best time with her grandparents and aunty and cousins and we knew she was safe! They are swell and I can't even put into words how much it meant to us. One day I hope we repay the favour somehow!

Going back to work has cemented the fact that I love my job and my career is actually a massive part of who I am. I mean its hard work, there is pressure and I had to be away from my family with some days not even seeing their faces but I wouldn't change it for the world. Will I work with the Festival forever? Probably not, but at this moment in time I can say it still excites me to wake up and go to work and work a meaningful job which feeds my desire to be creative and thats important right?

p.s: Next post I'll share some of the events I project managed this year!

So I am taking some time out from blogging...though I guess thats kind of obvious from my lack of posting.... ha!

Between the kiddo, being back at work (my days increase next month eeeek!), planning a wedding and you know just hanging out with friends and loved ones I've become time poor and my little online life has been sadly been put on the back burner.

I really wanted to document the planning of our wedding but you know what, its a simple event with super cute things planned but I don't want to ruin the surprise for my guests and some of them read my blog! ha! Also I'm not feeling very inspired to write posts anymore. the blog was initially set up to capture Tallulah's life and now she is leaping and bounding around I'm just living life right beside her instead of officially documenting it. Strange I know! I might have a change of heart but at this very moment in time my plate is full. Happy but there is just not much room left! Sniff, sniff!

I'll still be reading everyones blogs, and pinning, instgram-ing & facebooking but the reality is this is goodbye for now! Thankyou for taking the time to read my blog and hopefully I will be back soon!Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014737134879217726.post-8830997475891043032012-03-16T14:44:00.002+08:002012-03-16T14:50:42.208+08:00musical chairsSo apparently this is a pretty common drama when planning a wedding. The venues chairs are damn ugly. I'm positive its on purpose its so you'll have to hire chair covers from them! I hate those darn white chair covers. Soooo unattractive and your room ends up being a mass of white fabric with the table cloths and the white wedding dress. Urgh! I'm starting to feel a wee queasy! haha

Well, I'm sad to say our venue has hideous chairs and I'm usually like whatever no-one will notice but these bad boys are quite an eyesore! Its not really their fault as its not a fancy venue so I wasn't really expecting them to be pretty. I may have foolishly thought they might be cute, quirky or mis-match retro chairs. Nope, they are those gross school-chairs which may have been a green in their day but now are a nice dirty beige. Mmm delish!

So, my first DIY project will be trying to figure out a solution! Mum reckons we could whip up some colourful fabric covers (not to be mistaken for those white monstrosities!) on our sewing machines and so far this is looking like my best option! There is only 50 people coming so I think it may be do-able! My ideas have included stickers, cushions, paper flowers and ignoring them....haha

My favourite idea is the gingham one and I'm thinking of sewing a red heart to the back of each chair which I think would be pretty sweet! What do you think and do you have any amazing ideas?
We are getting married down south at an old mill town called Donnelly River. It holds a special place in our hearts as Ross' family own one of the cottages there. We spent New Years there this year and it was so relaxing, fun and casual! We can't wait to have all our favourite people in on place and have some cheeky bevvies outside underneath the trees and stars!

The wedding on the Donnelly River website is pretty much the reason we are getting married (oh and because we love each too haha) its so beautiful and the vintage elements are just delightful! Our wedding will probably be a little more colourful and definately no white dress for me!

Some reasons we chose Donnelly River are that we love the idea of a holiday wedding, we can do as we please with the club house where our reception will be held (including BYO drinks, food, decorations everything!) and its really just a pretty great place to hang out with the kangaroos and emus!

oh guess what? we're getting married this year at Christmas time....pretty darn exciting! Its going to be a casual soiree no white dress or bridesmaids or cheesy DJ but will be a holiday down south in the bush filled with homemade cakes, lifesized scrabble and handmade decorations! A wedding we have always wanted to be invited to! oh its me! I know, I know, I've been a stranger....! There is so much going on at the moment between starting back at work (yippee!), an active toddler and life! I've only started back this week at work and so far so good! I'm sure its going to get helluva lot harder but at the moment its pretty darn great!

I kind of lost my blogging mojo but it may be back as I may or may not have a big event that needs planning later in the year and its definately worth blogging all my inspiration for it! More on that later!

oh woe is me! we are not getting any shut eye of late and its turning me into a zombie-mama. I am just oh-so tired! What is going on? I ask Tallulah this everyday but she just giggles! Before Christmas we were doing so well and we even had some sleep throughs which got me very excited but alas she has regressed and even worse she now refuses to sleep in her cot....what is this all about?

She insists on sleeping in our bed which SUCKS as she is a wriggler and these steamy summer nights are horrid as she likes to cuddle in. We have taken the next step and decided to move her into a toddler bed. We only assembled it last night and she slept 1/2 the night in there so maybe this is going to work for us....we will just wait and see! <strike>Happy</strike> New Year! Oh yeah we had the best end to 2011 and worst start to 2012....

The good part was spent down in Donnelly River with Ross' family at their holiday shack. It was super idyllic, we ate cheese and sipped pimms on the balcony whilst the kiddies played with the friendly kangaroos, emus and parrots. We got coffee from the general store, swam in the dam, played on the playground and pushed Tallulah around in her new trike. It was delightful and so relaxing!

Then on our return Ross and I spent the first two days of the new year in bed with gastritis...ew. And then we had to go to emergency (first time ever!) because Tallulah was jumping on my Mums bed and landed strange on her foot (on the bed not the floor...) and screamed so loud and then refused to walk! So off we went to PMH where they suspected it was broken and sent us home for 48 hours to monitor it. Tallulah was so cuddly and sat on the couch with me the whole of the next day and didn't crawl or walk. So not Tallulah. So we went back in for an x-ray and thankfully after 3 different people looked at the x-ray they told us it wasn't broken and she didn't need a cast. OMG so stressful and exhausting....

I am super thankful that this was our first experience at emergency. I am so thankful that our 'emergency' wasn't something involving blood, allergic reactions or something super serious. We have learnt a lot!

I am glad to report that Tallulah is back to her spirited self and walking and almost running all over the house! I'm trying to stop the bouncing and jumping on the bed/couch but she loves it! Crazy baby!

Ross and I joke that 2012 just has to get better now....geez I sure hope so! I hope everyone's new year was better than ours! hahaReneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014737134879217726.post-39620947599987222302012-01-11T15:21:00.002+08:002012-01-11T15:25:18.463+08:00a tad tardy

pancakes!

Hi! We're still here...! Happy new year everyone! I am little late writing about our Christmas and new years but better now than never right?! This Christmas was soooo super nice and relaxing! Its funny how having a wee human makes all these holidays and occasions just more joyous and fun, am I right?

Ross and I woke up on Christmas morning around 8am and patiently waited to Tallulah to wake up! She finally did around 9:30am- whose child is this? Its not my normal 7:30am waking child! Ross and I were thankful for our 30 minute sleep in haha!

We made some delicious mango, blueberry and white choc pancakes and then opened PRESENTS! Hip hooray! Man I love everything about presents, the giving, the receiving but maybe not so-much the buying haha!

Tallulah loved all the paper and her new toys and guess what her favourite present was? These $10 foam blocks that "santa" gave her! I mean what about the awesome tiger wheelie bug your mum and dad gave you? Nope did. not. care. HA kids!

We packed up the car and headed over to my mums for a seafood BBQ lunch which was soooo good! Mum got all fancy on us and served scallops wrapped in prosciutto and Ross and I voted it the stand out dish of the day! So good my mouth is watering now....

We got spoiled again and scored big! Ross got a pasta machine (yay!), I got an amazing lamp shade which I had been coveting for a while and Tallulah got her trike which thankfully she LOVES! Phew!

After some delicious choc mint tart (seriously my mum did such a good job!) and a nap we headed over to Ross' parents for dinner! He has a large family which is such a foreign thing to me as my family is super small (like me, my mum and my brother!) but its so nice to have grandmas, aunties, uncles, cousins & nieces! Its makes it very festive!

We got bombarded again with presents and were very happy with our loot! We dined on a traditional feast including ham, turkey, chicken, prawns and many yummy salads! I made these cute reindeer marshmallow pops which were a hit!

We crashed into bed around 10pm with fully bellies, a boot full of new shiny things and good memories! Geez I love Christmas!Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014737134879217726.post-65678233980838585992011-12-21T19:09:00.000+08:002011-12-21T19:09:47.135+08:00rockin around the christmas tree

festive heart garland I made!

Its beginning to feel alot like Christmas in our house! And the best part? Ross only has one more day of work then we're on holidays! Seriously, I am so excited for Christmas this year! Tallulah knows how to unwrap presents and her face lights up when she sees whats inside, its beyond cute!

This last week we have been busy being festive by making christmas heart garlands, finger-painting christmas paper, christmas shopping, buying christmas outfits, having playdates with our playgroup, making santa sacks (super cute right?!) wrapping presents, listening to the she&him christmas album...oooh its been fun!

How cute is our wooden tree? I spray painted it and all! What does your tree look like?

p.s I am trying to teach Tallulah to not open the presents till Sunday...hard task! hahaReneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014737134879217726.post-30797046469099122812011-12-20T16:48:00.000+08:002011-12-20T16:48:56.567+08:00santa baby

Tallulah went to her first birthday party a couple of weekends ago. It was Hunter's birthday who is one of her little buddies in our mother's group. It was dress up. It was hilarious! Tallulah went as a duck and I made her outfit and of course she didn't like it one bit HAHA! She was one grumpy little duck and refused to wear her duck hat which was super cute by the way! But she still looked adorable! I ended up getting her to wear the full costume and took some sneaky snaps whilst distracting her! I am totally obsessed with kids parties and am looking forward to the up coming ones!
A couple of weeks ago we decided to take Tallulah to the Zoo! She has developed an obsession with animals and if she sees a dog on the street or an animal on the TV she points and makes this cute gurgling sound! haha so sweet. So we thought we'd take her to the Zoo to get up and close to the animals!

She loved the elephant, lions and the zebra! Oh and all the birds that were not part of the Zoo but hung out at the cafe trying to get some left over food. It was one of those beautiful days and we had so much fun even if Tallulah won't remember it Ross and I will! We ate macaroons & icey-poles on the grass and Tallulah loved crawling on the grass and loved loved the sand pit at one of the playgrounds. Then she fell asleep so Ross and I decided to check out the nocturnal house which is our favourite! Naw it was a great day and I am planning on getting an annual Zoo pass next year for Christmas which mean unlimited visits! hurrah!Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014737134879217726.post-33058887575892092812011-12-13T09:48:00.000+08:002011-12-13T09:48:54.578+08:00a walk to remember

walking also means climbing!

omg she walks....! Yep its happening! 2 weeks ago Tallulah could take a 2-3 steps between furniture or Ross and I. Then came 5-6 steps and now she can walk all around the house! She is still a little wobbly and falls on her bum all the time but its SO darn cute! She is still a keen crawler which is funny as I thought once she got the hang of walking she would be running all over the place but not yet. She is still working out how to walk from carpet to floorboards but oh my she looks totally like a little toddler! Squeal!

first birthday kisses!

Oh hi! I am a little tardy on my one year old milestones...oops! I think I was a little tired from planning Tallulah's party and needed some time out from computers/crafting/shopping and needed some R&R but then we all got sick so it ended up being longer than I anticipated. So then I started to question whether perhaps Renosslah had come to an happy end (the blog not us! haha) as the first year of a kiddos life is so special, new and well needed to be documented and with the approaching festive season which also includes an anniversary, our birthdays plus some important family & friends birthdays its going to be hectic and new year will arrive in no time. Which then means hello working mama which equals less time for everything! Phew thinking about makes me dizzy!

But when I thought about not blogging it made me sad so I took that as a sign that Renosslah was in fact not over YAY! For me this blog not only is an awesome place to document all the things Tallulah is doing but its also a place I can write what I'm feeling or is bothering me which has become a great creative outlet for me so with out further ado I'll get on with the 1-year old update!

Well, what a crazy last 12 months! You are still a little pocket rocket and never still. You are busy busy busy all the time and like to explore and climb like a little adventurer. Since weaning you 2 weeks before your first birthday you have transformed into a food machine which makes me oh-so happy! You love to snack all day and your favourite foods are banana, sushi, cheese and vegemite on toast!

On the walking front you hadn't really shown any interest in walking as you are one speedy crawler though this week (which I know is past her first birthday!) you are taking up to 4-5 wobbly little steps between furniture and your mum and dad! Its real cute!

Your new party tricks include tickling our toes and making this funny ziiiiiiii ziiiii ziiii sound we pretend it tickles and laugh and you think you are so clever! You are so obsessed with reorganising everything by pulling everything out then putting it back (though not always in the same place...make sure you check your shoes as you may find blocks, little animals or food in them haha!

Seriously though I am in love with this age! Its my favourite so far! Tallulah Mei you are one super fun little human!Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014737134879217726.post-56694300107232791282011-11-16T09:13:00.008+08:002011-11-16T09:45:52.557+08:00the red carpet

There were three party dresses. Yep THREE! Obviously she only wore one and perhaps has a sneaky change in to another sneaky outfit change during her party.

So the reason I bought 3 dresses? Well, I prematurely bought one about 8 months ago when I was certain I was having a Toadstool theme party! Its super cute with gnomes and toadstools on it but then I decided Japanese theme was so much more relevant and fun! Then I found this amazing Rock your Baby dress and estimated she would be a size 0...haha Tallulah is so petit and I tried this dress on her about a month ago (the dress had been in her wardrobe for like 4 months!) and it was swimming on her....! Oh no!

Then I found this amazing little kimono wrap dress on etsy which was so reasonably priced and is made by a lady in Queensland and I fell in love with it and Tallulah looked so darn cute in it. I got some super cute ruffled black bloomers and because it was a wee chilly I put a white long sleeved top underneath! I even bought patent red mary-jane shoe WHICH I FORGOT TO PUT ON HER...haha didn't matter but seriously I drove to a far away shop to get them!

After we cut the cake I changed her into a this hilarious onesie I made with some felt and a hot glue gun....she became a life size sushi roll! Complete with a wasabi and ginger headband which surprisingly stayed on her head for about half an hour! She looked so cute!

I love her little Japanese dress and love that its handmade and will most definitely tuck it away when she out grows it! She looked perfect...naw my baby is one, can not believe it!

p.s. Outfit photos are so hard to capture when one has a rather 'spirited' baby!

On Sunday morning I got up early and finished off the last of the food and we piled everything into the car to go bags a spot in Hyde Park to set up The Party! It was not without some tantrums and drama queen antics (from me not Tallulah...poor Ross!) but we chose a great spot near a beautiful tree perfect to hang lanterns and decorations off! We laid big rugs on the floor and set up some chairs with some helium balloon!

As I mentioned before we decided on a Japanese theme for Tallulah's party! So I went with a white and red theme and cooked things like sushi rolls, edamame cups, sandwiches which looked like sushi, soba noodle cups, sweet sushi (my fave!), hello kitty cupcakes and many more delish treats! We even had japanese beer! We decorate the tree with these super cute polka dot and waffle lanterns I found on ebay. I found the Happy Birthday bunting at Typo. I kind of went to town with buying cute cupcake patty-pans, straws and cupcake stands. Haha it was really fun!

My mum helped me plant little succulents for party favours which were a really fun alternative to a lolly bag. I think the kiddos are still a little young to be chowing down lollies but thats not to say that lots of the kids including Tallulah got their first taste of chocolate, fairy bread and birthday cake!

Talking about cakes we decided on a Miffy cake which was rainbow inside (the only photo I forgot to get!! I'm hoping one of the guests will send me one!). So I was so unprepared about how long a kids cake took to do....haha and ours was kind of simple but took AGES! Geez! But it was received with ooooh and aaaaahs when it was cut which is just what we wanted!

We had a bubble machine which was a hit with the kids and a photobooth which was a hit with the adults. The photobooth was probably my most favourite thing as it was so nice to capture the fun mood of the party! The photobooth was also the cheapest thing to do. I bought some fabric and strung it up between two trees and then printed off moustaches and funny lips and stuck them on sticks. I also bought some funny glasses and made some signs! Looking through them this morning I found myself chuckling. Good fun.

It was really nice to get together with all of our different social circles and celebrate this amazing little person who has changed our lives and bought so much fun and laughter. Tallulah had THE best time. She was a little social butterfly hugging and playing with everyone she didn't stop! It was also nice having all Tallulah's little kiddo friends come and play they really made the party fun fun fun!

After everyone left Ross and I sat around with my mum and his parents and had a beer and gave ourselves a little gold star for throwing the most awesome first birthday!
Tallulah woke up to an awesome ballpit and some presents which she loved opening but of course loved the wrapping paper and boxes better haha! The Beaufort Street Festival happened to land on 12th November which is Tallulahs birthday and as we live 30 seconds from Beaufort Street we spent lunch & dinner at the Festival eating dumplings and satays and drinking cider, playing on fake grass and strolling around the street. That part of the day was great.

What did I do with the rest of the day. I spent 6 hours in the kitchen baking cupcakes, zucchini tarts, cakes, slicing fruit, rolling sushi, dipping cake pops and the list goes on....who knew throwing a kids party could be so stressful and tiring. Ross and I asked ourselves many a time what were we thinking? Why did we not get this catered? Would anyone actually notice the effort we'd gone to?

We finally iced the cake at 10:45pm and then put our sorry selves to bed! Phew!

Can you believe it was 40 degrees last year and the forecast is cloudy with possible showers and 24!!! We are in party mode this week and boy am I excited though a wee concerned about the weather as we are having a picnic and have no contingency plan which really is very unlike me!

I've been planning her party forever! Its actually one of things I was most excited about when we discovered we had a baby! Really, who doesn't like a party? And considering I am an events coordinator and I didn't go back to work this year Tallulah's party has been a fun little project for me to plan!

We've decided on a Japanese picnic with a red polka theme which references the Japanese flag! Think sushi/noodles/lanterns and Miffy! Here is some of my inspiration. I'll post photos and all the details next week!

Oh weather gods please be sunny and delightful on Sunday! Oh and I have find some tights for Tallulah as I really didn't think it was going to be so chilly! Eeeek!

So wow. I am no longer breastfeeding. This is a pretty massive shift/milestone/moment in our lifes and something I am truly happy about!

Since Tallulah was a surprise and there was language barriers in Japan I never really got to choose whether I wanted to breastfeed or do formula or do both.I never got to research it or weigh up my options. Breastfeeding was the logical choice as we couldn't read the instructions on the formula tin. Then we left it too late to introduce a bottle probably because we were trying to figure out this whole parent thing. Fair enough. But it meant I had this little chip on my shoulder for a while because the choice wasn't mine. This little human made the choice and it was something I had to roll with!

If I had known I was having a baby I'm not really sure what I would have chosen. Probably a mix of both. I found breastfeeding really limiting, at times frustrating and god damn tiring. From about 3 months I tried to introduce a bottle, oh-man it was painful there was tears all round. It didn't matter if it was expressed breast milk or formula or a different bottle she didn't want a bar of it. So I just told myself she would wean herself. Everyone from doctors to health nurses to family told me that she would eventually do this when she was ready. I knew this but I am planning to go back to work early next year and really wanted to do it on my terms so when Tallulah was 8 months I spoke to my health nurse and decided to start to gradually wean her by dropping the occasional feed. Haha Tallulah was on to it and once again didn't want a bar of it...Tallulah also has never been a big eater. It seemed that she never ate enough to give up a feed or become full. It was REALLY frustrating and I was starting to get resentful and truly over it.

When she turned 11 months I knew that she wasn't going to gradually wean herself. So I decided that I would try something different. I decided to do it cold turkey. Its not recommended that this is the best option but for some reason I knew this was the method for us. I felt my breastmilk was like a drug and Tallulah was addicted.

We decided over the long weekend Ross would go to his parents house with Tallulah as I think the main reason she wasn't eating enough food was because I was there, it was easy and comforting to breastfeed and she could smell me all day long! I was nervous but on Friday morning I waved goodbye.

Apparently she was an angel whilst on holidays at her grandparents and ate food and only woke up once during the nights. OMG she even took a little bit of formula (I bought this Bellamy's Toddler Milk) from a sippy cup. Meanwhile I was a whole lot of pain as I had gone from roughly 8 feeds a day to nil. I had researched some natural methods to help with the pain and seriously they worked a treat! I used cold cabbage leaves and jasmine oil. After 2 days the tenderness subsided and things were looking up!

Ross and Tallulah came home on Monday morning and I was so nervous that she would be at my top wanting to be fed but nope she didn't care at all! WOW is all I can say. Thats not to say it has been kind of weird for me as before I knew I could soothe her with a breastfed but now I feel like we are treading on unknown ground and sometimes we find ourselves scratching our heads wondering what she wants whether its fingerfood or a bottle but we are getting there! And can I just say she eats SO much it is blowing my mind...! I am so happy its ridiculous!

In the end I am SO glad I did 11 1/2 months of breastfeeding I know (gold star I think!) I am really lucky that I was able to breastfeed with few issues as many women find they can't breastfeed. I know its so so so good for her too which is comforting. However I am rediscovering this new found freedom and I think Tallulah and I are so much happier for it. Not to mention I feel like I have a whole new wardrobe as so many of my vintage dresses were not breastfeeding friendly! Oh happy day!Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014737134879217726.post-76131125252802139122011-10-27T16:08:00.000+08:002011-10-27T16:08:20.325+08:00Royal

I'd like to introduce Queenie the newest member of our family! She will occupy the corner of our new astro-turfed balcony! Isn't she pretty? Oh, yes I did name my pink flamingo after the Queen as I got her in the mail yesterday and the Queen arrived in Perth yesterday and she wore flamingo pink so I thought it was fitting! Have a SUPER great long weekend!

P.S For those who asked I got her off eBay! I'm considering getting Queenie a friend...!Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12577012971085186548noreply@blogger.com4
